Walking Dead: Rick Grimes
After opening up a Wacom Cintiq Companion 2, I wanted to experiment. What started out as me testing thee device, quickly turned into a full illustration. My efficiency increased with the Cintiq. Normally, I work with a mouse.. so, I can say working with the Cintiq Companion 2 increased the speed of my work flow and create precise lines and shapes.
I began working on an illustration based on a photo of The Walking Dead's Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) in Adobe Illustrator. After creating 100+ layers I was satisfied with the result. I then imported the illustration into Adobe Photoshop.

To create a contrast, I decided to use photographs for the background. If you are familiar with my photography... you will recognize the background from an UrbEx photo series that I worked on. Then I found the textures for the door frame online. After some manipulation, I was content with the contrast between the illustration and the photographic elements.
This is the original photograph from AMC's The Walking Dead that I based the illustration on.

If you are familiar with my photography, then you will recognize this photograph. The image comes from an UrbEx photo shoot that I did in an abandoned military base in Belgium.
